Unexpectedly we have stumbled upon a little paradise in the Organ mountains of New Mexico. Carr spotted some BLM land on the map and we decided to head there to camp for the night before heading West to Truth or Consequences and the Gila National Forest. As we drove here we drew closer and closer to a spectacular mountain chain we'd seen in the distance, the Organ Mountains. I suppose they got their name from the resemblance of their massive jagged peaks to a pipe organ. And as we got closer still, we happily realized the land we'd be camping on was in the rather idyllic wooded foothils of these mountains. This place is... breathtaking. From where I am typing this (laptop battery is at 50%!) I see the peaks in a 180 degree arch in front of me, the sprawling desert behind me. It is calm and quiet... the only sounds we hear are the many small birds and the occasional sounds of the few other campers off in the distance. Rather than spend one night, we've decided to spend a few days here because it is just so fabulous... plus we're feeling like it'd be nice to camp in the same place for a while. We drove to town this morning to buy some water and supplies, but for the next few days this will be our lovely home.
The best part of this? Being here with Carr. She is wonderful and we love each other's company, and whatever beauty is around us is multiplied many times by experiencing it together. We have so much fun, and we work great together. As I type this she is using her mad drawing skills to sketch out a picture of us driving down the freeway with our other, animistic traveling companions, Skully and Buggy Boss Possum Skunk Horse Bucksnort Catfish Checotah Tumbleweed (more on those later, perhaps). We've been together every day for 2 weeks straight and I love and enjoy her more every day... but this isn't a revelation, this is always how it is. I love sharing these experiences and making meaning out of them together.
